Join us in Ayrshire for a discussion on how reducing mastitis in your dairy herd can produce more high-quality milk, increase your herds saleable milk yield, improve cow welfare and reduce antibiotic use.

Treating mastitis can be incredibly costly and affect saleable milk yields. Understanding the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment can help you achieve continuous improvement in mastitis control and udder health on farm. Using data available on farm to identify patterns of mastitis, James will share how you can use this information to achieve continuous improvement in mastitis control and udder health on farm.

Come along and hear from the team at Millands Farm, on how they have been working with James Breen from Map of Ag to reduce the number of mastitis cases in their herd. We will also discuss the protocols on Millands farm at drying off and what small changes were initially made to help reduce the number of new infections.

Arrival at 6:30pm for registration and dinner.

This meeting will cover

  • Causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of mastitis
  • Reducing mastitis through drying off protocols
  • How Millands Farm have reduced their cases of mastitis

About Millands Farm

  • Millands Farm is 345 ha in Ayrshire, farmed by Wallace and James Hendrie.
  • It is home to 600 Holstein-Friesian cows, on a spring block-calving system.
  • Through joining the Strategic Dairy Farm programme, Wallace and James wanted to increase fertility rates, improve grass production and quality, and improve youngstock growth rates. Within the last year, Millands have seen mastitis increase in their herd, so they are working with James Breen to help prevent cases.
